I decided to share my confussion from what happened to me yesterday. I opened up my Gmail account to see that someone from China has accessed it and sent emails from it. I'm wondering how is this possible. I thought this could happen only in Hollywood movies. I changed my password and I hope this never happens to me again! Fortunately, no information was lost!!!

It could have been E-Mail Spoofing dude. This means that they've sent emails from servers having nothing in common with Gmail, but labeled those emails as if they were sent from your email address...

Oh my gosh! I didn't even know that's possible. So what did you do about it?

It's not spam, there were Chinese mails sent from my mailbox at my "Sent Mails" folder, so I believe it's not spoofing as well

lucky GMAIL didnt limit your account
last week my wifes yahoo was hacked while she was siting at her desk with her Yahoo open on her screen ( not using it though )
first instance at 10 30 am
11am she goes to the dentiist
arrives home at 1230 after two phone calls to her of ppl asking if she is ok
shes confused
they told her they got mail from her saying she swas stuck in london... no money.... hotel wont let her leave bla bla the usual
1pm yahoo closes access to her account
but before that, the hacker deleted 7 years of her CONTACT lists and all mail from the account. Business contacts, clients, the whole 9yrds
shes pissed ( obviously )
i got on hte phone with yahoo later that night after they said there was nothing they can do about it and didnt want to give her access again without proof
that she is who she is and the mail wasnt actually sent by her.
i faxed then a Quick Check Reciept and told them the location so they can look it up + our address in relation
also i said
"YOU GUYS ARE MORONS! WHY WOULD YOU ALLOW TWO PEOPLE TO LOG INTO THE SAME YAHOO ACCOUNT FROM DIFFERENT IP ADDRESSES?"
did you bother to look at that in your infinite yahoo wisdom?
Sure enough, she was logged into her yahoo for 4 days on ONE ip address
someone from Nigeria logged in @ 10:10 am on the day in question and began sending mail
So i then asked them,
Do you think hte concord air plane is still in use? because theres no way we can get to that area in Africa in the matter of hours

HA! Dont hold your breathe
dealing with internet hijackers is so far down on the list of UN IMPORTANT things that its not even a BLIP for a single 24 hour length of time.
I have been using computers since before the internet existed and
i was lucky enough to watch it actually develop and grow (internet)
As for the law enforcers doing something about just her case?
think about it..... she is one of millions of people with a yahoo account JUSt in the north east Unites States
how many ppl do you think were hacked the same way either the day before
same day as
or the day after
it doesnt pay them to bother

Well said. Those guys from the support never seem to care... And it's not only a Yahoo issue!

That was BAD! I'm so lucky this stuff didn't happen to me. I mean, my inbox was full of important information (usernames, passwords, mails from employers and so on)
